Review: Animal Mint Cake by Crops
Despite the persistent consumer demand for high-testing strains, the supply of high-THC flower on the Illinois market has dwindled significantly. In fact, our Thirty % Plus THC review series, which used to receive reviews monthly, only featured four entries in 2022. That was why I was thrilled to discover that Animal Mint Cake from Crops, which I picked up from Consume Marion, boasted impressive enough test numbers to add to the series.
Animal Mint Cake is an indica leaning hybrid cross of GSC and Fire OG. This batch of flower tested at 0.41% THC, 30.38% THCa, and 31.17% total cannabinoids. Leading terpenes included β-caryophyllene, limonene, linalool, and α-pinene.
Crops packages flower in large jars that can accommodate some of the largest buds I have seen from an Illinois dispensary. The vibrant turf-green color of the buds is accentuated by a generous coating of trichomes, giving them a sparkling frosty appearance. In addition, the deep purple, almost black remnants of sugar leaf provide a contrast to the bright green buds, making them even more visually striking.
The jar contained a pungent aroma of blue cheese, dense musk, rotten tropical fruit, and heavy cream. The scent was notably sharp and pungent, and while I personally enjoyed it, I can see it being objectionable to some. The sharpness died on the palate revealing hidden tones of rose and lavender on top of the rotten tropical tones and heavy cream from the aroma.
Animal Mint Cake delivered a primarily cerebral experience, inducing a spacious and expansive headspace, accompanied by a mood lift. Despite being labeled as an indica, the strain did not leave me feeling lethargic or mentally foggy. Instead, I felt clearheaded and creative, with ample energy for writing or brainstorming. As time passed, euphoric vibrations spread throughout my body, as well as a sense of deep pain relief.
Overall, I was thoroughly impressed by Animal Mint Cake’s heavy flavor profile and euphoric effects, and I look forward to experiencing this strain again in the future. For more Illinois News Joint reviews, visit here.
