Bloomberg write

Even religious bodies are seeing the light when it comes to cannabis. The Church of England will relax a self-imposed ban and consider investments in medical marijuana, the Financial Times reported.

The Church Commissioners for England will still exclude recreational cannabis producers, the FT said, citing Edward Mason, the head of responsible investment at the entity that oversees the church’s 12.6 billion pound ($16 billion) investment portfolio.

and the FT report

The Church of England will not invest in companies that earn more than 10 per cent of revenue from the sale of recreational cannabis, the threshold it uses for most of its other ethical exclusions, such as tobacco, pornography, gambling and high-interest lenders. The church is known for taking public positions in the ethical investment sphere, which considers factors such as environmental impact, social good, corporate governance and morality. The church has challenged ExxonMobil and Glencore, for example, pressuring executives to improve their environmental policies. The Church Commissioners invests “in a way that is consistent with Christian values” and excludes investments on moral and ethical grounds, according to its website. At the end of last year its portfolio was 40 per cent listed equities, 12 per cent property and infrastructure, 11 per cent land and most of the remainder in private equity, credit, bonds and cash.

Meanwhile in Liverpool

Liverpool will become crucial to the world’s “rapidly expanding” legal cannabis market, it’s been revealed.

Liverpool Science Park-based TTS Pharma has announced it wants to become one of the world’s “leading suppliers”, announcing the news recently that it had closed a private equity investment of £10.3m, Business Live reports.

Estimates show that usage of cannabis by health services including the NHS remains low, despite it becoming lawful in the UK to prescribe marijuana in certain circumstances back in November.

But with the value of the industry estimated at “multi-billion”, now Liverpool Science Park-based TTS Pharma has announced it’s looking to become one of the world’s “leading suppliers”.

The substance may have been available in countries such as Holland for many years, but the Independent reported last month NHS prescriptions of the substance since the law in the UK was changed has been “low” – fewer than 100.

TTS Pharma, a firm claiming to produce, manufacture and supply the “highest quality, legal and safe cannabinoids”, has announced it’s closed a private equity investment of £10.3m.

The firm says the move will permit TTS Pharma to become one of the leading global suppliers, by allowing it to expand its existing supply chain, develop its own facilities and further strengthen its academic and commercial partnerships.

TTS Pharma CEO, Mark Tucker said: “It is a great privilege to lead a team of highly experienced pharmaceutical professionals building an exciting portfolio of technologies and products based on world class expertise and industry leading know-how.

“We are well placed to build on the scientific developments driving this rapidly growing industry and provide cannabinoid products of unparalleled quality and consistency.

“Since my early involvement in pre-clinical cannabinoid trials in 2003, TTS Pharma has grown extensively and is now producing and developing a range of innovative and safe cannabis-based products within existing legislation and the evolving regulatory framework.”
