Construction Begins On Bright Green’s $300 Million Cannabis Research Facility

On Tuesday, one of the nation’s largest cannabis research and manufacturing facilities broke ground on what the company says is the most state-of-the-art cannabis research facility in North America. Located in Grants, the facility will be part of a $300 million investment by Bright Green Corp. and the state of New Mexico towards the state’s growing cannabis infrastructure. According to a press release, the facility will employ over 100 people.

Bright Green will be operating under a Memorandum of Agreement with the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA). According to a press release by the company, they intend for the facility to be part of a larger national market for cannabis research and products.

“Today launches a new era in plant-based therapy research. The work conducted by Bright Green will provide the highest quality plant-based products on the market for research by DEA-certified researchers and other federally authorized Schedule 1 drug handlers,” said Bright Green Corporation Chairman Terry Rafih.

In addition to working with the governor, Bright Green says it worked with local and Tribal leaders in Cibola County from the beginning to create the right environment for innovation and research.

The facility will boast one of the most advanced agricultural greenhouse ecosystems with a state-of-the-art automated system. The new facility will cover 115 acres in Grants, New Mexico. Once completed, Bright Green will operate more than seven million square feet of cannabis infrastructure in New Mexico.

Construction on the facility is scheduled to be completed in 2023.
