Australian General Election, Legalise Cannabis Party Candidates Profiles: Michael Balderstone

About 5 weeks to go and a general election is in full swing in Australia.

This time last year the Legalise Cannabis Party in Australia was comprised of a number of disparate state-based organisations.
This year, the party for the first time , is presenting a unified national front for the 2022 general election and as they have virtually received no coverage from the mainstream media, here at Cannabis Law Report, we thought it might be an idea to get to know the candidates on their own terms.
We have forwarded all candidates in the party exactly the same questionnaire with a number of questions that will give readers and voters an opportunity to learn a bit more about their candidates, who are in the main, standing for the Australian Senate

We start the ball rolling with the defacto figurehead for the Australian legalize cannabis movement, Northern NSW based Michael Balderstone.
Here’s what Australian Cannabis Summit had to say about Michael

Michael Balderstone

Leader of the Legalise Cannabis Australia Party, Michael Balderstone is one of the most well-known cannabis activists in Australia.

Michael Balderstone abandoned a successful career as a stockbroker to look for a deeper meaning in his life.

He settled near Nimbin thirty odd years ago where many of the locals understood the various aspects of the cannabis scene.

He’s been involved with the HEMP Embassy and MardiGrass since they began and is president of the federally registered political HEMP Party.

He’s passionate about injustice in all forms but in particularly the war on drugs, saying drug use should be a health issue and not a fight over who gets to profit from our pain.

Michael comes to the table to give first hand input on the unmet need and widespread Medicinal Cannabis use in the community.

YOUR BIO

I discovered fifty years ago cannabis stopped my migraines and have loved it ever since.
Then once I learnt about the history of the plant and its prohibition I felt compelled to try and raise awareness about the drug war. I’ve been living close to Nimbin for over thirty hears and been involved in the HEMP Embassy and HEMP Party since they began.
The more I learn about cannabis the more outraged I am about its illegality.

WHAT MADE YOU STAND?

To try and raise awareness about cannabis, how good it is and how good it would be to change the current laws.

IF YOU ARE VOTED IN WHAT DO YOU HOPE TO ACHIEVE IN THE LIFE OF THE PARLIAMENT FOR CANNABIS

To re-legalise cannabis and in particular first up change the current attitude towards growing our own plants and driving after using if deemed unimpaired.

WHAT OTHER POLITICAL ISSUES WILL YOU HIGHLIGHT

How cannabis can help in a major way to save the planet from sickness, starvation, deforestation and poisoning the earth.

HAVE YOU ENTERED A PREFERENCES DEAL & WITH WHOM?

No preference deals …we hope to primarily send a message to the government by encouraging people to vote 1 Legalise Cannabis.
