EPD: Man caught with bag of synthetic marijuana charged with drug dealing | IndianaPosted by On

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WEVV) — An Evansville man is being charged with drug dealing after police say they caught him with a bag of synthetic marijuana.

An EPD officer said they had just finished filling up their patrol vehicle with gas on Monday when they saw 43-year-old Derek Levi on a bicycle.

The officer says Levi failed to stop before turning south onto Seventh Avenue from West Iowa Street, before continuing to ride south in the northbound lane of the road.

EPD says the officer stopped Levi and asked to search him, and that he gave consent.

Police say Levi tried to grab into his pocket and told them he had a bag of oregano and pepper spices.

Officers say they tested the substance, and that it tested positive for synthetic cannabinoids. They say the bag weighed about 67 grams.

When police questioned Levi again about what the substance was, they say he changed his story and said it was catnip.

Levi was arrested and booked into the Vanderburgh County Jail, where he’s charged with Dealing a Schedule I Controlled Substance.
