Access for patients: Czech Republic confirms medical cannabis subsidies

From the new year the Czech Republic Ministry of Health will be subsidising payment of medical cannabis from public health insurance.

Since 2010 cannabis has been legal for medicinal use in the Czech Republic but there was no regulation of the cost and it was not covered by health insurance, making it difficult for patients to access the medicine,

Earlier this year the Ministry of Health proposed for 90% reimbursement of products containing cannabis for medical use from public health insurance. On Tuesday the proposal passed through parliament – meaning that from the new year patients will be paying just hundreds a month for their medical cannabis rather than the thousands they will currently be paying.

As US cannabis investors profit, Greece tries to attract foreign investment in medicinal market

Investment in the US cannabis sector continues to drive growth through companies like GreenStar Biosciences Corp. (CSE: GSTR) and Greece is fighting to attract international investors to their own market

The Greek government has granted a total of 26 cultivation licences for the cultivation and processing of cannabis for medicinal purposes. The measure is also expected to have a positive impact on the economy.

As a conversation between Prohibition Partners and a Greek government spokesman revealed, they are very enthusiastic about the possibilities of medical cannabis. In addition, they are actively looking for new international investment opportunities.

Ireland

Calls for the medical cannabis programme to be extended

A symposium in Limerick has heard that the medical cannabis access programme here is too restrictive and needs to be extended to include people who suffer with chronic pain.

Legislation passed last July allows a Consultant doctor to prescribe medicinal cannabis, but it is restricted to just three conditions.

24 people in Ireland are now being prescribed medicinal cannabis, but it only includes those suffering from multiple sclerosis, epilepsy and post chemotherapy sickness.

San Marino

San Marino may soon legalize the recreational use of cannabis

One of the most prohibitive countries in Europe, where at the moment there is no distinction between light and heavy drugs, seems about to change its mind.

Something new and unpredictable is happening in that handful of square kilometers that is the Republic of San Marino : last Thursday the Great and General Council, the single-chamber parliament of the State, approved a request that calls for regulating the use of cannabis to recreational purposes .

The text sanctions the total failure of repression policies, citing the now famous 2015 report of the Italian National Anti-Mafia Directorate. It also underlines how those countries that have taken the road of legalization have not registered an increase in the consumption of the substance, while new jobs have been created and the coffers of the State have benefited from greater tax revenues. Furthermore, reference is made to the increase in tourism that could occur from the legalization of soft drugs.
