Ohio Gives Another Shot at Expanding Qualifying Conditions

Ohio is currently accepting petitions in an attempt to expand the list of qualifying conditions for medical cannabis. Ohio became the 25th state to legalize medical cannabis back on June 8 of 2016. Medical cannabis is now available to residents in Ohio who meet one of 22 qualifying conditions laid out by House Bill 523.

IBS Is the Newest Qualifying Condition for MMJ in Ohio

Last month, the Ohio Medical Board made a landmark in the state which approved Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) as a qualifying condition for Ohio’s medical marijuana program. Being the fourth time since 2019 that the Board has disapproved Autism for cannabis-inclined therapy, one wonders if there is hope for approval in the coming years.

Pritzker (D) has signed two separate medical cannabis expansion bills into law. The new law went into effect on August 9, 2019. Senate Bill 455 permits children with serious conditions for which medical marijuana has been recommended to have medical cannabis infused products administered to them while on school property.
