Oregon: Realtor accused of being involved in transactions for dozens of properties used for illegal grow-ops

The Province reports on what looks like, to us, an interesting test case.

Will we see more realtors being indicted if they are involved in renting out land and property to illegal grows?

Authorities allege Tyra Foxx covered up illegal activity by transferring ownership of properties from individuals to limited liability corporations over several years.

A 41-year-old realtor with RE/MAX in Grants Pass, Ore. now faces charges in connection with her alleged involvement in more than two dozen transactions involving properties believed to have been used for illegal cannabis grow-ops.

Following an investigation by the Josephine County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO), Tyra Polly Ann Foxx has been charged with unlawful manufacture of a marijuana item, hindering prosecution, tampering with physical evidence and forgery in the first degree, KDVR reports.

Foxx was arrested earlier this week after search warrants were executed at both her residence and the brokerage office where she worked. She posted bail on the same day.

With regard to the realtor, Sheriff Dave Daniel said she is alleged to have covered up illegal activity by transferring ownership of properties from individuals to LLCs (limited liability corporations) over several years, KAJO reports.

Investigators are also looking into potential money laundering. “Basically creating like estate accounts and, in essence, hiding money and shifting money around to different locations, in essence, kind of a money-laundering scheme,” Sheriff Daniel explained, per NBC 52.

The station reporter reached out to the Grants Pass RE/MAX office but was told that Foxx no longer works at the brokerage, although as of that time, her business profile was still visible on the Internet.

The situation is considerably more severe than some other cannabis/realtor connections, including the off-duty officer in the U.K. who found an illegal cannabis grow-op inside the garage of the house he was viewing, or a video of another fire-damaged home for sale that clearly showed loose wires, charred walls and some potted cannabis plants.
