Police seize $4.5m in drugs after searching Brisbane home, shipping container

The Brisbane Times reports

Police have uncovered a drug stash valued at $4.5 million after an investigation into alleged trafficking between Sydney and Brisbane by people linked to the Comanchero motorcycle gang.

Officers in Queensland and NSW, with assistance from Australian Criminal Intelligence Commission, received information that drugs were being moved from Sydney to Brisbane on Thursday by people connected to the bikie gang.

On Thursday night police arrested a 30-year-old man, before searching his Eight Mile Plains home and a shipping container at a building site in Yatala, south of Brisbane.

Officers seized 130 kilograms of cannabis, 1.5 kilograms of cocaine and 2000 litres of chemicals, which were taken for forensic examination, along with cash and a mobile phone.

The man was charged with two counts of possession of a dangerous drug exceeding the schedule, possession of things used in connection with an offence against the Drugs Misuse Act 1986 and tainted property. He was to appear at Brisbane Magistrates Court on Friday.

A driver on the Pacific Highway was also intercepted and arrested, and his truck was searched. Mobile phones and $476,000 in an external lockable box on the vehicle were seized.

Police then searched a business in Smithfield, Sydney, where cocaine was seized.

A 24-year-old man was charged with supplying a prohibited drug (large commercial quantity) and knowingly dealing with the proceeds of crime.

Police allege the man travelled to Queensland from Sydney to supply prohibited drugs.

He was set to appear at Port Macquarie Local Court on Friday.
